We've been curious what was going on in the second floor of the former Press Club building just above Union Square (across Powell from the Sir Francis Drake), and now this week we get the soft-opening debut of the Golden Gate Tap Room (449 Powell at Sutter), from the owner of the Lori's Diner chain.
Eater has some photos, and as they report, there's a food menu and a list of beer 100 brands long. And, in the style of Dave and Busters, there are two regulation shuffleboard tables, three skeeball ramps, some pool tables, 20 TV screens for sports, and a ton of new and vintage video games for the playing.
While it may certainly get mobbed by tourists and the douchier variety of locals in no time, those of you on the inside track can check it out now before word gets out and you can still play some pool in peace. The official grand opening is scheduled for August 1.
