While neither the 80 nor the 580 are particularly roomy during Monday commutes, today's BART strike just announced at midnight, made the trek from the East Bay to San Francisco even that more hellish. Bay Area Rapid Transit workers and BART management broke off late Sunday despite the request of California Governor Jerry Brown in a last-ditch effort to reach a deal.

If you cannot stand being stuck inside a car, check out other alternate routes. This public-transit snafu could last all week. The last time BART went on strike, back in 1997, it lasted for six painful days.
