You may remember seeing Woody Allen wandering the city in a fishing hat last year, and the fruits of his labor are on their way. The trailer is now out for 'Blue Jasmine', Allen's San Francisco movie (somehow we don't think this particular film will be described as a "love letter" to San Francisco--or will it?).
From what we can tell, the plot goes a little something like this: Cate Blanchett plays Jasmine, a New York society woman who gets the blues when her rich husband (Alec Baldwin, hamming it up) turns out to be a crook. Now she's broke and insufferable.
She flies Virgin first-class to to San Francisco ("the flight was bumpy, the food was awful") to stay with her sister Ginger, played by Sally Hawkins, in her Mission apartment above New Central Cafe on S. Van Ness and 14th Street. She's not a fan of said apartment, which looks positively palatial by S.F. standards. "Your place is ... homey!" she equivocates, right before grabbing a bottle of Stoli and commencing a downward spiral.
In between Xanaxes, Jasmine finds time to slurp vodka at The Ramp, talk to herself at house parties, and wander around Chinatown with a Birkin bag looking acutely out of place. Ginger takes at least one walk along Ocean Beach with Louis C.K., and from there, your guess is as good as ours. Will slumming it in S.F. change Jasmine's outlook on life? Do we care?
'Blue Jasmine' will be released in theaters July 26.
