Last night just before 10 p.m., a 25-year-old man was assaulted by a gang of six or seven youths on a 49-Mission Muni bus near the intersection of Mission and 22nd Streets. Although a witness claimed to have heard gunshots, an SFPD spokesman tells SFist this morning that no shots were fired.

SFPD Officer Albie Esparza confirmed to SFist that six or seven juvenile suspects attacked the victim with a tire iron while on the bus around 9:48 p.m. yesterday evening. The crime is considered an assault with a deadly weapon, but the suspects fled the scene and no arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning. SFist was passing by on 22nd Street around 10:30 p.m. last night and can confirm a small crowd gathered to watch as police and paramedics were on the scene at the bus stop just south of 22nd Street.

At least one other bystander was quick to claim the bus had two bullet holes, but again: there have been no official reports of shots fired or gunshot wounds. We'll have to wait until the onboard security footage is released to get the final word on this one.

Late Sunday night, two people were injured when a suspect opened fire on a Muni bus farther south on Mission Street near the intersection with Valencia Street.
