Not a good month for children in the Bay Area. Let's see: A Pleasanton teacher allegedly tied up and then photographed a two-year-old child, then a Mendocino County toddler was found drunk and high on meth, and finally a two-year-old was kicked in the torso by a stranger in Golden Gate Park. Now we can add daycare drugging to the list.
At a day care centrer in Morgan Hll, called Kiddie Academy, a child handler allegedly spiked toddlers' drinks with sleeping pills just before nap time. Deborah Gratz, 59, (and of Hollister) was arrested Tuesday on child endangerment charges after an employee spotted her preparing water for young students while crushing Sominex into their cups. She was a five-year-veteran at the daycare center.
Fortunately, none of the children drank the sleepy, toxic water. At least this time.
Gratz was put under arrest on felony charges of child endangerment. Anyone with any information regarding this incident or if you had a kid under her care at Kiddie Academy should contact Morgan Hill Police Department Detective at 408-779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at 408-947-STOP(7867).
