On Sunday, April 20, the fine folks of Berkeley Repertory Theater cross the bay for their annual fundraising gala, Ovation, at the Four Seasons. If you have the means, it's likely to be a fun event benefitting what many consider the best theater company in the Bay Area.
This year's festivities will be MC'd by the delightful Danny Scheie, who most recently appeared in Troublemaker at the Rep but who's known to many local theater fans for comedic turns at CalShakes and elsewhere. And in addition to a banquet and live auction, there will be a cocktail reception and silent auction, with booze sponsored by No. 209 gin, and St. George Spirits, as well as plenty of wine.
Berkeley Rep, as you may know, won the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater in 1997. And in the last twelve years, seven shows developed at the theater have ended up on Broadway, with over a dozen more landing off-Broadway, and three going to London.
Tickets for the event are $500, with tables starting at $5,000, and proceeds benefit the nonprofit theater as well as their education and outreach programs. Get them here.
