A man in his 30s is in custody after a bizarre standoff with police at the Castro Chevron station Thursday morning. Around 10 a.m. the station attendant called police to report a man who was threatening her and behaving erratically. She then managed to lock him into to the convenience store and lock herself in the bathroom until police arrived.

At that point the man broke one of the glass doors to free himself but retreated back into the store and locked himself in the manager's office as police arrived. He then threatened to harm himself, showing police a small knife he was holding against his wrist. The SFPD called in crisis negotiators, and the guy eventually surrendered around noon. The station attendent then got to leave the bathroom, and she was uninjured.

The suspect is being held for a psych evaluation, and says he lived in Livingston, California, a small town in Merced County where we imagine he is not a boy scout.
