In the three years since its inception in 2009, ForageSF's Underground Market provided a venue for countless budding chefs and food entrepreneurs to realize their cottage industry dreams without having to first navigate the labyrinthine regulations of the food industry. Unfortunately, Big Food (a.k.a.: the Department of Public Health) didn't like that and eventually put the kibosh on the kibbutz. While ForageSF and founder Iso Rabins will continue to cultivate local food through the Forage Kitchen incubator space, this weekend's Underground Market will be their final market-style event.
For the uninitiated, the Underground Market is broken into two parts: From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, the market focuses on take-home items that we're sure would make lovely last-minute stocking stuffers or something unique to bring over to your grandmother's house for the holidays.
From 6 p.m. until Midnight, the event shifts into drink/eat/dance mode with hot food items, booze and music.
Beer and wine will be available throughout the day because no one likes shopping (or eating) sober. Entry is a very reasonable $5 to keep the DPH happy.
It all happens at SOMArts: 934 Brannan St. between 8th and 9th in SoMa.
