In front of St. Francis Memorial Hospital today, members of the S.F. Fire Department set up a safety demonstration to show local holiday decorators just how fast a well-watered pine can go up in flames. It doesn't matter what your tree-topper is made of — basically, there's a very strong chance your blue spruce will spontaneously combust sometime this holiday season. So, it is probably best to minimize the chance of that happening by giving you treet plenty of space, keeping it away from heat sources. Especially something like, say, a road flare. Observe:
