The man who was part of the couple found bound and gagged in Visitacion Valley Sunday night, who later died at the hospital, has been identified as 26-year-old Stephen Reid. (Though NBC is saying he was 27.)
Reid and an unidentified female, who is in her late teens, were found badly injured and left for dead around 8:30 p.m. Sunday on the 900 block of Brussels Street near Mansell Street. The young woman is still fighting for life as of this hour but remains in critical condition.
The motive for the homicide remains unknown and under investigation. This was San Francisco's 63rd homicide of 2012, and the 6th to happen in and around Visitacion Valley this year. Following a double homicide in the neighborhood in late July there was talk of an escalating gang war between longtime foes the Towerside Gang and the Down Below Gangsters who live around the the Heritage Homes and Britton Courts public housing developments, has been in a long-standing war with the Down Below Gangsters, who live around the Heritage Homes/Britton Courts projects and the adjacent Sunnydale Public Housing Development, respectively.
