In an effort to save the family dog, who was swept into rough surf on a beach north of Eureka on Saturday, a 16-year-old boy dove into the waves and was followed by both his mother and father when he got swept out by ten-foot waves as well.

The dog managed to save itself, but sadly all three family members drowned. The bodies of the mother and father were recovered, and a search for the boy went on until this morning, when it was called off.

This all happened at Big Lagoon, about 30 miles north of Eureka. A daughter survived the ordeal and was the one to call 911 at the time of the incident.
