After ten undoubtedly nail-biting, edge-of-their-seats days of ballot counting, the neighborhoods west of Twin Peaks finally have their successor to Sean Elsbernd's termed-out District 7 Supervisor seat. Board of Education President Norman Yee prevailed over labor leader F.X. Crowley by a teensy margin of 131 votes.
While the votes are not officially certified yet, Department of Elections Director John Arntz said his people were "pretty much done" counting the ballots in D7, which sounds good enough for West Portal.
Yee went ahead and declared victory last night, but Crowley is not yet ready to concede in the historically close race for supervisor. Crowley's campaign manager, Alex Tourk, didn't rule out the possibility of a recount. The city has never had a recount in a supes race since ranked choice voting began in 2004, but any voter can request one within five days of the election results being certified. The catch is that whoever requests the recount has to pay up to cover the costs of the extra work at the Department of Elections and there are no refunds if you lose.
