Corte Madera is really concerned about the pot clubs! The Corte Madera town council is expected to vote on a new moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries to replace a previous moratorium that was already in effect but which could not be renewed. The latest ordinance was passed by the town's planning commission Tuesday.
The new ordinance would expire in February 2014, at which point the town's only dispensary, Marin Holistic Solutions, will see it's lease expire also. That dispensary is being allowed to continue its operations until then. MHS is one of the few Marin dispensaries to have survived the statewide federal crackdown that began last year.
It remains to be seen, legally, whether cities and towns even have the legal right to ban marijuana dispensaries, but this temporary moratorium thing seems to be one way of dealing with the gray area.
