In case you missed it, Roseanne Barr is running for president. She's been nominated as the official candidate of the Peace and Freedom Party, Cindy Sheehan is her running mate, and here's her official campaign website. And she made a stop and gave a speech at Oaksterdam University last Thursday night, to the delight of many stoners and pot advocates.
One young gentleman even brought a homemade campaign poster, modeled off the Obama Change posters of 2008, featuring Roseanne and the slogan "Yes We Cannabis."
The bulk of Roseanne's speech was about her criticism of "the prison-military-industrial complex" in which drugs are criminalized and corporations profit from the "slave labor" provided by inmates in state-run prisons. She said that kids from poor families are basically given a choice between war and prison, and that's "not a choice at all." Also, she quipped, "Locking up your own tax base is simply stupid."
Besides legalizing marijuana, her other positions include "bringing down" the banks and the Federal Reserve, and forgiving all student loan debt. On the latter count, we fully support her.
In related news, that drag-queen, live-on-stage re-enactment of Roseanne is ongoing at Rebel. We hear it's quite hilarious.
Also, if you've never watched her amazing reality show Roseanne's Nuts, about the macadamia farm she owns in Hawaii, you must.
