Eagle Tavern, the SOMA staple that fell under controversy after the city got wind that its new owners might not be into man-on-man action, is now back in the hands of LGBT ilk. And seeing as how it's returned to the warm, brawny arms of the gays, the new owners will ask for you to help cover the costs of repair and remodeling via a fundraiser.
Set to coincide with this Sunday's Folsom Street Fair (which, let's face it, is San Francisco's real Gay Pride weekend), it will run this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, as Mr. Barmann at Grub Street points out, it "is likely to draw a large crowd given that the Eagle has long been a traditional end-point for many a Folsom reveler — except this party will be in the parking lot across the street, at 12th and Harrison, and not on the Eagle's own patio."
The bar is expected to open sometime around Halloween. But you can sniff a whiff, as one typically does at Folsom Street Stench Fair, by helping out and listening to the smooth sounds of DJ Frank Lucas. Also, on the stage you can hear rock outfits Zbornak, Nightgown, Beard Summit, Cinnamon Girls (Neil Young Tribute), and Whoa Nellies bring back just a little of that Thursday Night Live vibe. Smashing.
