Bi-Rite Creamery, which regularly sees lines wrapping around the corner on Dolores, has applied for its very own parklet on 18th Street to accomodate for some of the spillage that drips over on all those ice cream-friendly days in February. While the Creamery already has some sidewalk seating out front, the parklet would give customers easier access to the celebrated salted caramel ice cream by removing a parking space caddy-corner to Dolores Park.
As Bi-Rite co-owner Anne Walker told Mission Local, "there’s seating on the sidewalk, and this would give us more space for people to gather."
The proposed parklet would sit somewhere between the ice cream shop and the soft serve window next door. No one has opposed the proposal just yet because we have an Ice Cream First policy in this city, but if the Creamery gets any bigger we wouldn't be surprised if they had to start hiring bouncers to manage the throngs of overheating San Franciscans eager for a lick of strawberry-balsamic ice cream.
