Tonight monthly free music series Wood Shoppe returns to Brick & Mortar Music Hall on Mission Street to showcase a trio of emerging artists in cover-free, cheap-drinking environment. The latest installment of the series, which has been slowly picking up speed since it began a few months back, pairs bicoastal duo Foxygen, LA-based NO, and local support Dylan Shearer onstage with happy hour-esque drink prices behind the bar.
Our pals at the Guardian expertly describe Foxygen as a "vaguely French inflected, 1970s-referencing" duo that's just oozing with "sexy glam rock excess" that's a little bit Lou Reed and just a hint of David Bowie.
Echo Park's NO will provide anthemic rock that, we're told echoes the restlessness of Los Angeles itself. If that's too abstract for you, the band has a free EP available for download. San Francisco's ownDylan Shearer will open the night with his locally sourced bedroom pop and Popscene's Miles the DJ will be on hand to keep things from going quiet between sets.
Again, cover is free, and because drinks don't come cheap without a corporate sponsor: locally made foreign brew Trumer Pils will run you $3 all night, and a cocktail made with Sailor Jerry's, which is like Captain Morgan for people who are no longer in college, will run you a cool five bucks.
