Keep an eye on the where you park your car while celebrating America's Birthday tomorrow: as the Examiner reminds us today, SFMTA hasn't considered the Fourth of July a meter-free holiday since 2009. Which should really be causing more local outrage, because free stuff in the name of God and Country (healthcare notwithstanding) is, of course, one of the very things this great nation was built on.

Anyhow, SFMTA justifies the non-holiday status for July 4th because most businesses are open anyway and meters are designed to increase turnover. Fair enough. While the meters are gobbling up your quarters tomorrow, Muni will be operating on a holiday schedule. Which is just fine, actually, because Muni drivers need to get drunk and barbecue and maybe accidentally lose a finger to some illegal fireworks just like the rest of us.
