Tonight in AT&T Park, Matt Cain pitched nine flawless innings for the 22nd perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball and the first for the 130-year-old Giants franchise. Cain and company shut out the Houston Astros 10 runs to none.

Cain racked up the feat over a career-best 14 strikeouts and 125 pitches. In the outfield, the right hander who is sure to have a big night out on the town tonight, was assisted by a magical running catch from Gregor Blanco in the seventh. As Cain said of his defense:

Obviously we can talk about the sixth inning or the seventh inning, but those were two unbelievable catches. That changes the whole thing. Obviously the defense behind me, the guys were able to give huge run support and I was able to go out and pitch comfortably.

Adding high praises for Buster Posey behind home plate:

I can't thank Buster enough. I didn't even question him once. What he was calling, I was going to throw whatever he wanted and I was going to let him go. Buster did an unbelievable job back there. That was tremendous.

The first perfect game in Giants history. One-hundred-and-twenty-nine-plus seasons and 19,781 games without a perfect game. It had to be Matt Cain. He could have retired to fight crime yesterday, and he still would have been one of the most legendary pitchers in the history of an ancient franchise. Instead, he keeps adding to the damned legend. And it is so, so glorious.
