In honor of Harvey Milk Day on May 22, the Friends of Harvey Milk is doing a screening of Milk at the Castro Theatre to benefit the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy — the small public elementary school in the Castro. Longtime activist and Milk pal Cleve Jones will be doing the opening preamble. Also, Dustin Lance Black will speak, too. Cool!

Speaking of Cleve, Just about a year ago Jones was mouthing off to the Examiner about the atrociousness of the HRC, who are selling tickets to the show, for co-opting Milk's former camera store at 575 Castro Street for their new headquarters. As he put it then, "[Harvey] was not an 'A-Gay' and had no desire to be an A-Gay. He despised those people and they despised him. That, to me, is the crowd HRC represents. Don't try to wrap yourself up in Harvey Milk's mantle and pretend you are one of us." So, yeah, not a fan!

We're sure Jones is probably doing this because he believes in helping the school, and honoring Milk's memory, but he'll probably make some kind of testy comments during his speech. You can witness it all by purchasing a $15 ticket, or have a cocktail with Jones at the VIP reception for $50. Let the gay-on-gay tension begin!
