Despite not being able to remove their collective heads from their tushes to figure out late-night service on a regular basis, BART has managed to make one good decision for New Year's Eve this year. They'll be running trains until 3 a.m. in order to ferry the various drunken revelers of a bridge-n-tunnel sort to their respective points east after last call at DNA/Mezzanine/The Hustler Club.
Trains will run at all their normal intervals, but for three extra hours. Also, there will be extra service to and from downtown S.F. before and after the 8 p.m. fireworks on the Embarcadero. BUT, they're going to once again do this asinine thing they started two years ago where half the eastbound trains are going to skip Embarcadero station in order to decrease foot traffic there. So, if you want to ride the Pittsburg or Richmond lines, you'll need to walk to Montgomery Station (or ride a Peninsula-bound train one stop from Embarcadero and transfer across the platform). BART is furthermore "encouraging" Peninsula-bound riders to enter at Montgomery, no matter how high their heels or how cold it is outside.
Also, Dublin/Pleasanton trains will skip Montgomery station, FYI.
No matter how they announce this, there will still be hundreds of confused and tipsy people, we are sure, watching trains pass them by and crying into their party hats. Enjoy!
