Seeing as how some of us are, admittedly, those sort of default Niners fans whose experience with the team is mostly limited to that one game we got free tickets to*, we went ahead and asked resident Niners fan Daisy Barringer what she thought about the Pro Bowl lineup announced last night. It features eight total 49ers (although no love for Alex Smith). The New England Patriots are the only other team with eight on the Pro Bowl Squad. Here's the list of Niners who made the cut, plus Daisy's commentary:

2012 Pro Bowl Niners: (Asterisk denotes starter)
David Akers, placekicker
Dashon Goldson, free safety
Frank Gore, running back
Andy Lee, punter
* Carlos Rogers, cornerback
* Justin Smith, interior lineman
* Joe Staley, tackle
* Patrick Willis, inside/middle linebacker

And here's Daisy:

Okay, well I have nothing too elucidating to say about the situation but here's my personal stance:

While it's so awesome that the 49ers are sending eight guys to the Pro Bowl—more than Green Bay if anyone is counting—what makes me even happier is that we have at least two guys represented from offense, defense, and special teams. If that doesn't prove that we are a cohesive unit who has everything we need to make it in the playoffs, I don't know what does.

That being said, I am pretty bummed that Aldon Smith, who is just one sack away from breaking the rookie sack record, wasn't picked. But since he was listed as a DE instead of an OLB, I guess it makes sense.

Ultimately, while I appreciate the sense of accomplishment that must exist for players who are picked to play in the Pro Bowl, the whole system is pretty flawed and isn't the best way to judge excellence. I mean, unless you're talking about the 49ers who are sending EIGHT PLAYERS (tied only with New England). Then it's the only way to measure. Duh.

SHIT ANDREW: I said I wouldn't ramble. Well, I lied. Take from this what you will.

To summarize: "The team is awesome. The whole Pro Bowl thing is bullshit. But 8 guys? That seems like a big deal, right?"

(*It was a couple years back and Joe Montana and Dwight Clark were there to commemorate the 25th anniversary of The Catch from '82 by re-creating the play at halftime. And there were fighter jets overhead. I think it was Veteran's Day or something? Anyway, that's got to account for something.)
