Glide Memorial Church's Rev. Cecil Williams showed up to the Occupy San Francisco encampment on Thursday to deliver soul food "and a strong message of support" to protesters. "I'm one of the 99 percent," Williams told the Mercury News, adding, "We serve a million meals to the poor every year. This here is part of our rhythm, this is what we do."
Regarding Mayor Lee's iffy stance on the encampment, which could come down over the next few days if he pulls the trigger, Williams said. "I think, frankly speaking, Mayor Lee has a good heart. He's a good man. He wants to work this out in a way that is effective for all people. But they don't know how to do it."
The noted Reverend capped if off with this bit of wisdom, perfect for both Occupy followers and detractors: "The problem with most folks is that they have to win, and for most folks, the best way is for us to relate to each other as real brothers and sisters."
