Berkeleyside reports that U.C. Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulov has confirmed there was a shooting at the Haas School of Business on the U.C. Berkeley campus just before 3 around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. Notices of a shooting on campus went out via the school's UC Warn Me text message notification system and the Haas school was promptly evacuated.

The shooting apparently occurred in a third-floor computer lab where as many as ten shots were reported. Latest reports from UCPD, via Berkeleyside, indicate that "the suspect and the victim are one and the same in this incident."

The victim/suspect has been transported to a local hospital. It is currently unclear if the shooting is at all related to today's Day of Action protests.

We'll continue to update as we know more.

Update 3:40 p.m: The Daily Cal reports the that UC Police were responding to a call at the Haas School around 2:15 p.m. this afternoon. The suspect was seen brandishing a weapon and was shot by UC Police around 2:30 p.m. The suspect is currently in custody and has since been transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland.

Update 3:50 p.m: U.C. spokesman Dan Mogulov confirms that a Haas School staff member spotted a man with a firearm in his bag riding the elevator earlier this afternoon. The staffer notified a supervisor who in turn called UCPD. When police arrived on the scene and found the suspect in a computer lab on the South side of the building, they told the suspect to "Drop the gun" at which point shots were fired. Mogulov has not yet confirmed who shot first or how many shots were fired.

The Daily Cal also confirms that the suspect is the only victim of today's shooting. In an email to Haas students, a Senior Assistant Dean confirms that all students, faculty and staff are safe. Classes at the Haas school are canceled for the remainder of the day.

U.C. Berkeley has issued an official statement.
