Sure, we've all gone out of our way to get the top-shelf Halloween treats from the rich neighbors down the street, but we never lived down the street from Steve Jobs' home on Palo Alto's Waverly Place. The late Apple CEO had a tradition of opening up his home to the local children on Halloween and this year was no exception. Despite the apple trees in the front yard, the Jobs' home didn't force any fruit on the eager youngsters. As the Mercury News reports, a few ladies manned the haunted front yard to hand out, "fist-sized cellophane bags filled with orange candy slices, Toblerones and sour drops."
All in all, about 50 kids waited outside the gates, some coming from as far away as Hayward across the Bay to receive their sugary handouts. The yard was decorated with spooky Halloween dummies, fake fog and some intense-looking jack-o-lanterns that caused at least one child to tell his mother he was too scared to go inside. Naturally, a couple of youngsters showed up dressed as their favorite Apple products: an iPod and an iPad.
One new Palo Alto resident and father of two princesses for the night told the Mercury News, "It's a wonderful testament to Steve Jobs and his family. My daughters will be talking about this for the rest of the year."
The Mercury News has all the spooky-fun photos.
