San Jose / Missing Person: Steve Ruiz, the man believed to have shot and killed fellow Hells Angels member Steve Tausan at the funeral of another fellow member last Saturday, has disappeared and may in fact be dead. Investigators have already dug up the grave of the man buried at the funeral to make sure Ruiz's body was in the hole with him, but it is also possible that Ruiz was "spirited away" by fellow gang members. Excelsior / Robbery-Pistol Whipping: A 32-year-old man had his teeth smashed in by a silver semiautomatic handgun while helping a friend move on Saturday. The victim was standing in the garage of a home on the 500 block of Vienna Street when two thugs entered the garage, pistol-whipped him, and demanded cash. They fled in what's only described as "a dark vehicle." [Examiner]

Chinatown / Robbery: A 58-year-old woman had her purse stolen out of her bedroom this morning around 3 a.m. on the 900 block of Sacramento Street. [Examiner]

Oakland Hills / Fire: Right near the 10th anniversary of the huge Oakland Hills fire of 1991, a marijuana grow operation in a private home sparked a fire that completely destroyed the home yesterday, ousting two young children and their elderly caretaker. The parents of the kids, and presumably the ones responsible for the basement grow house and the electrical overload that sparked the fire, were out of town at the time. There were apparently official documents allowing marijuana to be grown in the home. [Tribune]
