If you want to catch Teatro ZinZanni's final show at Pier 29, called On the Air, you'll need to get on it quick. The new production itself--about a local radio station in need of funding to stay on the air--mirrors ZinZanni's own plight about being forced out, if you will, by the America's Cup. ZinZanni announced the news on their site, saying:
After more than eleven years, 800,000 visitors, 40 different theatrical productions and 200 of the finest international performing artists, Teatro ZinZanni will offer its final performance in the Pier 29 Spiegeltent on New Year’s Eve 2011. Teatro’s current home on Piers 27 and 29 is scheduled to be a part of the upcoming America’s Cup and Teatro ZinZanni is working closely with the City to locate a new permanent home.
As it now stands, this will be ZinZanni's final performance until they can come up with a new space. The final show will be on December 31.
Created by Norman Langill, Teatro ZinZanni has been described as "the Moulin Rouge meets Cirque du Soleil," showcasing a mix of cabaret, circus arts, food, and "vaudeville performed in a Belgian spiegeltent" (aka, a mirror tent).
