Apple went ahead and yanked a thinly veiled anti-semitic (?) app called Jew or Not Jew? (Juif ou pas Juif?) from its iTunes Store in France. The Chronicle reports: "The app let users consult a database of celebrities and public figures to determine if they are Jewish or not. Its removal follows a complaint from a French anti-racism group that threatened to sue the iPhone and iPad maker."

The app drew protests from a French anti-racism group, SOS Racisme, who requested that the Jew/not Jew database be removed.

France, if you recall, has strict laws "banning the compiling of people's personal details without their consent." (They also have strict laws on antisemitism, as John Galliano knows all too well.) The app, however, is still available at the iTunes store outside the country for $1.99.
