In a move to address the ongoing issue of violence in clubs around the city, SFPD Chief Greg Suhr held a forum with members of private security companies at the Hall of Justice yesterday. The main topic of discussion: how to get club employees and private security workers talking to the police again. And the solution: let's have them tweet about it.

In the past, club owners have been reluctant to alert the cops whenever suspicious or dangerous activity arises for fear that they might get hit with violations that could cost them their entertainment permit or liquor license. Not to mention clubgoers seem to find it a lot less intrusive when someone is thrown out by a bouncer versus having the police show up.

The first initiative to come out of the forum, which also included discussions about the increasing number of cameras at venues and state certified "Guard Guards", is a new twitter account for ALU Club Alert. (Short for "ABC Liason Unit.) The account will be tweeting out updates sent in from club employees around the city so that other businesses and the clubgoing public can monitor entertainment-related security issues from around town.

Since it went live, we already see this update about a devious hater taking shots at SOMA clubbers with a BB Gun:
