Music Fans: you have an embarrassment of riches in the local music department this weekend as not one, but two reasonably well-known local music blogs hosting their annual music events on Saturday night.
From Van Ness, the Alt kids at SFWeekly will be throwing their yearly All Shook Down Music Fest at the Regency Ballroom, while down in Potrero Hill the Indie folks from The Bay Bridged would like to reveal the 3rd annual Regional Bias. Because everyone has unique and special musical tastes, we won't decide for you and which one you should go to, but we'll at least give you the information you can use to make an informed decision. In the form of a brief list of Pros and Cons:
The Bay Bridged presents: Regional Bias:
Venue: The Verdi Club (2424 Mariposa Street)
Doors at 7 p.m.
Tickets: $10-$20 sliding scale
Lineup:
Little Wings, Royal Baths [their last show], White Cloud, Sea of Bees
Pros: It's at the Verdi Club, which may be the cleanest, most underrated music venue in the city. Shows are infrequent here, so any excuse to drop in to the Art Deco space is welcome. The room is perhaps best described as "feeling like stepping in to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance from Back to the Future". Proceeds help The Bay Bridged support local music through future events like the Rock Make Festival and the recent Phono Del Sol festival - so you can feel good about your ticket price.
Cons: Your friends who have never heard of Sea of Bees won't want to go.
SFWeekly presents: All Shook Down Music Fest
Venue: The Regency Center (1290 Sutter at Van Ness)
Doors at 7 p.m.
Lineup:
Crystal Castles, Mistah Fab, Maus Haus, Con Brio, J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, Battlehooch, Aaron Axelson. Richie Cunning, Blank Tapes, Seasunz, DJ Centipede, Shawn Reynaldo
Pros: Bigger lineup means more bang for your $35 ticket (caveat: some of those acts are DJs). Your art school friends who have heard of Crystal Castles will want to go.
Cons: Your art school friends who have heard of Crystal Castles will want to go. The Regency Ballroom is a LiveNation GoldenVoice venue, so that ticket price jumps up to $47.90 after Ticketmaster fees (ouch!)
