After that cringe-inducing string of injuries put a significant chunk of the Giants roster on the disabled list, it was good to see at least one name scratched off and put back in to the batting order. Pablo Sandoval made his return last night in Phoenix looking "measured, calm, and focused" as he drove in the first run off of Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter and eventually led the rally that put the Giants up 5-0 by the end of the fifth inning.
Collmenter would only last five innings while Cody Ross' beat him up by doubling up on doubles and knocking in two runs. Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain nearly put the team off though, giving up a three-run homer to Miguel Montero in the sixth inning before Nate "No Running" Schierholtz brought the Giants back up with two runs in the seventh.
Brian Wilson, as he tends to do, came in to walk a pair of Diamondbacks in the ninth, but eventually closed out his 19th save of the season by striking out Stephen Drew.
After the game, Panda shoved his hand in a bucket of ice, and told MLB.com the injury that has had him sitting out since April was giving him "no pain" even after a ten-pitch at bat.
