ART: This month's Root Division art event, Eye of the Beholder, explores the presence of the body in art "through parody, distortion and subversion, giving viewer the opportunity to look at the body and question our assumptions of normalcy and 'other'". (7 to 10 p.m., Root Division Gallery, 3175 17th Street)
MUSIC: Vice Records veterans, Black Lips, bring their "deceptively skillful rock 'n roll ruckus" to Great American tonight, along with Cerebral Ballzy and Personal & the Pizzas. (Great band names, guys!) (9 p.m., Great American Music Hall, 859 O'Farrell Street)
THEATER: All weekend, Triple Shot Productions is presenting their Staged Reading Series, featuring new works by local playwrights, followed by refreshments and discussion afterwards. Tonight's readings will be In Love and Roman Warfare by Peggy Powell, in which love threatens to turn to tragedy, and All That and a Box of Donuts by Dan Wilson, in which five people find themselves locked in the offices of a downtown San Jose employment agency during the zombie apocalypse. (8 p.m., Phoenix Theatre, 414 Mason Street)
