The lovely Michele Mandell brings word that noted KQED restaurant-review show Check, Please! Bay Area is looking for a few good reviewers. Might you be one of them? The rules, in addition to being camera-ready, are as follows: You must be at least 21 years old, you must be willing to travel to and participate in a taping at KQED studios in San Francisco, you must be free on a weekday for a few hours, and you must be able to travel to any restaurant location within a 50-mile radius of San Francisco at your own expense.
Furthermore, don't come off as obnoxious. Pretending you know everything about food only because you prefer your vegetables crisp is downright fury-inducing. (Mark our words, barely-cooked vegetables are this year's cupcakes.) Also remember to have fun. Zany, slightly unhinged guests work best on the show.
Best of all, Check, Please! Bay Area is hosted by the indefatigable Leslie Sbrocco. She nabbed both the James Beard award and three Emmy awards for her hostessing duties. Of all the talking heads in the Bay Area, she's our personal favorite. Check out an episode to judge for yourself.
KQED will contribute a stipend of $125 for every guest on the program. Fill out an application for consideration.
