Alack, alas, the sun is shining. It's a lovely day for the park, at least for the funemployed. As most of them know, newsprint and sunblock don't mix, so calling up SFist's weekly summation of the alt-weeklies on their phones is probably the best way to go. And here goes:

SF Weekly

If it's not one sort of activism it's another in this town, and this week's cover story deals with the ongoing war between the ardent cat-lovers who prowl the darker corners of town to feed feral cats (and, consequently, rats), and the ardent bird lovers and environmentalists who see these feral cats as a menace to the environment — especially to songbirds. Outdoor cats, in case you didn't know, are largely responsible for declining bird populations! Siding with author Jonathan Franzen and one of the characters in Freedom (which contains a subplot about a human-population-control advocate who actually goes a little nuts over a outdoor house-cat that's killing birds near his woodland home), many environmentalists feel that S.F. should stop supporting feral cat feeders at the expense of songbird populations, and often at the expense of the cats' health.
