Were she the sort to be spotted wearing a hat, we imagine it would be a sassy fedora, but all personal style issues aside: former District 2 Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier is now Mayoral Hopeful Michela Alioto-Pier. According to the Examiner, Alioto-Pier confirmed suspicions that she's gunning for the Mayor's office when she filed the necessary paperwork with the Department of Elections this morning.

Her relatively late entry to the race puts her at a disadvantage financially, compared to the competition who have already been diligently fundraising. That includes her kinda-sorta nemesis, Dennis Herrera who shot down an attempt by the former D2 Supe to sue the city in order to seek another term as supervisor. Of course, Herrera was just doing his job as City Attorney by interpreting the city charter that termed her out of office, but sometimes we just need a little drama in these things.

No word yet on D5 Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and Board President David Chiu, who many expect to join the fray and we still need at least one whacky San Francisco character before this thing is really an election.
