The folks over at Bernalwood would like to call your attention to a recent crimespree that's been going on in their neighborhood. Citing reports from the Bernalsafe mailing list and the San Francisco Crimespotting map, there have been several reports of "well-organized groups of goons who operate in coordinated pairs from opposite ends of the block to entrap potential victims from multiple angles of attack."

The muggings seem centered around Tompkins Street, south of Cortland, and one victim was attacked by a group of "6-8 young men between the ages of 18-23...in front of several houses with very bright motion-sensor lights." The attackers split and ran off in different directions when neighbors came to help. So remember to be extra vigilante when walking through the neighborhood, residents of Bernal Heights.

A handy tip from SFPD: if you're mugged (heaven forbid) get a look at the attacker's shoes. Apparently they tend to drop other items of identifiable clothing, but shoes are necessary for escape (and expensive). Any other recent reports of this kind of thing around the city?
