Plenty of shows to choose from this week with indie favorites Local Natives at the Fillmore Wednesday, local electronic trio Pixel Memory at Milk Thursday and the unstoppable Party Effects crew at Public Works Sunday.
Our featured act this week is Flying Lotus, who plays Mezzanine Friday night. The driving force behind Los Angeles' burgeoning beat scene, Flying Lotus's impact on hip hop and electronic music over the past few years can hardly be overstated. The 26-year-old's groundbreaking 2008 insta-classic Los Angeles, -- a dense yet seamless mashup of hip-hop, jazz, dubstep, IDM and glitch -- set the bar for bedroom producers across the musical spectrum, and his recent genre-bending full length Cosmogramma has only furthered the calls to crown him the next DJ Shadow. Yet unlike so many studio nerds, Flying Lotus manages to deliver live -- his jaw dropping set at this year's Coachella was easily one the most buzzed about performances of the weekend and his Spring tour with Thom Yorke managed to impress even the most ardent indie geek. This one is not to be missed.
Several other show options this week including rootsy local quartet Blackstone Heist at 111 Minna Thursday, debstep-inspired experimental electronic duo Mount Kimbie at Public Works Saturday and Vegas and SF-based dance act Afghan Raiders at Mezzanine Saturday.
