The Board of Supes is holding a hearing tomorrow to decide whether to reject Muni's latest budget, which includes a City Charter-mandated 9% raise for union members on July 1, which totals about $9 million. Gavin's been fighting to make sure the union accepts some labor concessions (like the oft mentioned overtime pay issue) which would amount to about $9 million in savings, and therefore balance out the pay increases.

The Board may be mollified by a promise to restore about half of the recent service cuts by fall. Says Nathaniel Ford, exec director the SF MTA, "There’s not a large transit system around this country that isn’t talking about their second and third service cuts. And for us to be in a position to restore service cuts is a testament to ... our commitment to the citizens of this city." That, or it's a testament to them realizing they'd better do something to quiet down the citywide outrage about the fare hikes and service cuts, but sure, commitment to citizens works too. [Examiner]
