SF Examiner alerts: bike thefts have spiked to six times a week from about once a month in the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods, according to recent police reports. "I honestly don’t think there’s anything in a garage that you can lock it to that someone, given enough time and the right tools, can’t defeat," Capt. Richard Corriea of the Richmond Police Station explains to the Ex. "Don’t leave [a bike] in the garage. If you have to, only leave part of it. Use a harder steel lock and lock it to something, but a cast steel pipe can be broken." Also, a depressing 6 percent of stolen bikes are reunited with their owners. Sad.
