Despite being ordered by a court to hand over half of its revenue to SF Bay Guardian for illegally selling ads below cost, SF Weekly is not -- not! -- going out of business. OK?!
In a letter sent out to company employees yesterday, Village Voice Media's Andy Van De Voorde fumes: "Despite uninformed speculation in certain publications, SF Weekly is not going out of business. Its day-to-day operations will remain unaffected...With regard to yesterday's ruling, this latest legal gambit by the Guardian is just another example of that company's flawed and increasingly desperate strategy: to try and collect whatever monies it can before the California Court of Appeal has even had a chance to rule on the underlying merits of the lawsuit."
AVDV goes on to accuse the SF Bay Guardian of "openly and unashamedly advocating against" consumers' interests by raising prices "during one of the worst recessions this country has ever seen." SFBG , however, is all, "Huh what? Just pay what you owe us."
Well, then.
