Yesterday at the eleventh hour, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom picked up his paper work Department of Elections in City Hall and paid his $2,500 filing fees, meaning he'll finally run for Lt. Governor. Which he'll probably do. For reals. We mean it.
This comes on the heels of Newsom's failed gubernatorial campaign--which he bowed out of, according to Newsom, because he had a wife, new child, and tough gig as our mayor--even though he might not know what the Lt. Governor does.
Does he stand a chance of winning? Sure, why not. His former campaign manager, Garry South, sure seems to think so; otherwise, why would he send out this frightened/pissed off missive?
If Newsom does, in fact, snatch the lieutenant governor's seat, he would remain mayor until taking the seat in January. Board of Supervisors President David Chiu would then "become mayor until the board, by a vote of six or greater, appointed an interim mayor."
