An overabundance of events happen this week: the SF Symphony's opening night gala tomorrow; SF Cameraworks 35th anniversary on Thursday; like, 9/11-y stuff, presumably. Anyway, as the end of summer approaches, a lot goes on.
One thing you shouldn't miss is Friday night's Hot and Cold - The End is Here. Presented by the fine men of Baer Ridgway Exhibitions -- after opening their SOMA art gallery doors a little over a year ago, Kent Baer and Eli Ridgway's gallery seems to be on everyone's lips in the Art community -- they will host "a group exhibition in conjunction with the release of the 10th and final issue of the renowned San Francisco zine by the same name, created by Chris Duncan and Griffin McPartland."
The zine project is "part book, part artwork, part fluxus project, part exhibition and part creative adventure." (Get your hands on the final issue here.) To celebrate its final issue, Baer Ridgway will bring together a group show of each artist included in the final issue. "Engendering the energy of a space which embraces the interstices where local cultures and new practices overlap and re-emerge in fresh perspective, the show at BRX will continue into the community space with programming including live music, comedy performance, film screenings and local happenings." There will also be an "out-of-gallery experience lead by David Wilson."
Artsy stuff aside, the best part of the night, as with any night, will be the after-party happening at 111 Minna. In addition to the DJ sounds of Hyper Sweats, Hot Grits, and Robots.In.Heat, you'll receive complete aural satisfaction from live bands the Urxed and Tussle.
Intriguing/educational art show first; intriguing/inebriated party second. You simply must go.
