READING: Idiolexicon Poetry Series brings together different types of poets -- from slam to experimental, hip-hop and academia -- having them share a stage. Tonight, the lineup includes performances by poets Stephen Meads and Myron Michael, and music by Cynthia Weyuker. Happens tonight at the Boxcar Playhouse.

COMEDY: Part of local sketch comedy troupe SPF7, Justin Lamb and Jay Starr perform tonight at Club Deluxe.

MUSIC: One of the Innovators of the Bakersfield Sound, country music legend and iconic ex-con Merle Haggard twangs it up tonight at the the Grand Ballroom At the Regency Center.

FILM: Although Into the Wild managed to roundup a couple of nominations for Best Editing (woo hoo!) and Best Supporting Actor (Hal Holbrook), the Oscar voting board ignored Sean Penn in the directing and writing categories. Pity. This story about a young trustifarian's journey in the Alaskan wilderness is a rewarding and well-done watch. It screens tonight at the Castro Theatre.

CLUB: El Rio helps squelch your Monday suicidal tendencies with "Radical Vinyl," showcasing old- and new-school vinyl tunes. A mere $2 gets you in and a mere $2 gets you well drinks and $1 Pabst all night long. Jenny Hoyston mans the decks, so to speak.
