More setbacks for those of you wanting souvenirs or a grilled cheese sandwich by the Golden Gate Bridge -- the Warming Hut's reopening after its devastating January 2007 fire has been delayed.

The Warming Hut is that cute historic building right on Crissy Field, run by the Golden Gate Park Conservancy and dedicated as a Green business for selling sandwiches and warm sweatshirts (ah, tourists). Eco-consciousness only goes so far, though, as the January 2007 fire was caused by an unplugged electric car that spontaneously burst into flames.

The good firefighters of San Francisco put out the flames with water, but in so doing, ended up creating a "microbial infestation" from the soaked wood. (Does that mean mold? Guess there's another way of going green.) So now they've got to rebuild all those infested parts of the house, and they also have to do this in a way that preserves the historic look of the old building.

The Park Conservancy is estimating the Hut'll reopen in September or October, at a cost of around $1 million, and meanwhile, you can get sandwiches and sweatshirts at the Crissy Field Center. If you want to donate to the rebuilding effort, click here (.pdf).
