Dufty says the reason why he's doing this is because a more experienced Supervisor means a better Supervisor. He's also proposing it to keep people from constantly scheming about what other position they could take once they're termed out (cough..Mark Leno...cough). As for charges that he's doing all this to make sure the progressives stay in office longer than they are now, he denies that. All of which makes people wonder what would Gavin do? After all, term limits might be the only way he could get rid of Chris Daly.
The idea, however, seems to be pretty agreeable in that both the Bay Guardian and the Chronicle like it, although for different reasons. In term limits, the Bay Guardian sees the handy-work of devious Conservatives out to prevent the working class from rising up and the Chronicle sees it as just the start of any number of reforms. Like why have eleven Supervisors when maybe five is just needed? And why district elections? And hell, why do we even need a Board of Supervisors anyways?
