We actually owe the federal government thanks for bringing us "spare the night" nights as it appears in a fit of insanity in which they actually did something to help the environment, they actually raised standards on the amount of particles that could be in the air. The amount allowed is now less than it was. Which is why we all have spare the air night.
What are we supposed to do during these nights? The Bay Area Regional Air Quality Management District is asking for people to cut down on traveling by night and not sparking the wood-burning stove. That'll put a crimp on people's late night booty calls for sure, but at least it'll go to helping the environment.
