Despite what you may have read here before, Almodovar's been one of our favorite directors for some time now. From the young Antonio Banderas in 'Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down' to the haunting story of 'Talk to Her'. We don't know how one man can so thoroughly understand women, but with his rich cast of female characters in Volver, Almodovar has proven to us once again he not only understands and appreciates women, he adores them.

In this surreal story you won't find too many male characters. Men definitely play a large part here, but their on screen appearances are brief. This is a story about woman, in all her roles, and at every stage in her life. Almodovar is a master at creating rich fantasy worlds that somehow deal with very real, tragic events and the emotions that come with them.
