First up is one from fashion/design site Jargol. It's one of those Google map type thingies that let’s people know where to go for the "coolest" independent shops. Yeah, most of these are boutique-y and we're consummate Gap guys and we can't stumble drunk in our neighborhood without stumbling into some funky clothes shop (usually while trying to step over somebody) but there are those of you who think this is the bee's knee. One cool thing about this map is that it works in places outside of San Francisco. Like if you ever saw yourself in Santa Rosa and looking for bitching shoes to go with your cocktail dress, well, you'll know where to go.
This other one is from Fortius One and it's called GeoIQ. You basically find yourself a place in the country, plop in the kind of demographic information you want, stuff like single women, high income, population, or age groups and, viola: instant Google Map. Oh, it'll let you compare with New York in case you wanted to compare it to New York. Like, we guess, if your mother calls and let's you know that it'll be easier to find a nice Jewish girl in New York, you can show her the map and show her that it might not be the case. Hell, you could even have some fun and check out the population of "cougars."
Frankly, like most things techy, we're not exactly sure what this will do to help us, but it's still pretty cool.
