The Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi-penned ordinance goes into effect immediately, but the Red Vic still had several hurdles to leap. We spoke to the Red Vic's Martha Beck, to see if we could be drinking a (non-illicit) beer during . She told us that they still need to go through several steps with the San Francisco Planning Department and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. "The planning department has been great, but the ABC's another matter entirely" she said. "They have so many bureaucratic steps, with so many places where things can get hung up or go wrong. But it's in the ABC's hands, now."
"We're now hoping that we can start serving beer and wine by the end of the summer" she concluded. But that doesn't mean we need to wait until then to hit the Red Vic -- encourage the BOS's support of our local independent theatres now, and maybe take in The Big Lebowski tonight or something else from their calendar later this month. But go see something!
