For many commuters, running after public transportation doesn't sound like sport, it sounds like Monday morning. But, for some, it's a fun way to spend a Sunday. The Cable Car Chase is on this coming Sunday, August 28th, starting at 8am. There's still time to register to run the 5.67 mile course. And, obviously, you'll be doing that course chasing a cable car. Our contribution is going to be limited to deciding which of their auction items to bid on.

Only in San Francisco!

Why we like it so much is that the Cable Car Chase benefits two charities, both of which are very worthy and one of which we are particularly drawn to - Girls On The Run.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit that works with girls in 3rd through 8th grades. They provide an afterschool running program that trains the girls for a 1-mi or 5-k race while also providing what you might call "life lessons" on topics like self-esteem and media images. Each program lasts 10 weeks and at the end the girls compete in a race.

The volunteer opportunites at Girls on the Run are pretty neat - you could be a coach or running buddy. If we were sporty we'd totally want to do that! You run alongside the girl during her first race. How cool!
